Washington DC, April 22, 2026 – Privacy for America, a coalition of leading companies and trade associations representing a broad cross-section of the American economy, today applauded the House Privacy Working Group for its work to advance a comprehensive federal privacy law that protects consumers while preserving beneficial practices that promote competition and drive innovation and economic growth.
“Online privacy protections shouldn’t vary based on where you live. In today’s data-driven economy, it is essential that all Americans benefit from strong, consistent privacy protections and that businesses have a clear set of rules,” said Stu Ingis, partner at Venable and counsel to Privacy for America.
“The current state-by-state approach to privacy regulation creates a patchwork of protections for consumers and varying rules for businesses that reinforce the need for Congress to act,” Ingis said. “The legislation introduced today reflects the consensus-based approach adopted by dozens of both red and blue states across the country, including ensuring that all consumers have the right to delete, access, and correct personal data, prevent its sale, and control its use for targeted advertising. We encourage Congress to take action to advance this important legislation.”
