Washington, D.C., June 14, 2022 – Privacy for America, a coalition of leading trade associations and companies representing a broad cross-section of the American economy, including the media, retail, technology. financial services, and information industries, welcomes today’s hearing and continued engagement by the Subcommittee on Consumer Protection and Commerce of the House Energy and Commerce Committee on data privacy legislation.
“By requiring restrictive opt-in policies for non-sensitive data, draft legislation released this month falls short in terms of preserving responsible data use that allows businesses of all sizes to advertise to consumers products and services they might be interested in, the lifeblood of growth in the American economy,” said Stu Ingis, counsel to the coalition.
Privacy for America remains committed to working with the Committee to revise the legislation and to supporting the enactment of comprehensive legislation that enhances privacy protections for all Americans, while preserving the many benefits that accompany responsible data use.
